Passport: Take a passport photo, make duplicates, write down the number and info of your passport and make sure these are separate from your passport. If you lose your passport, you can go to the U.S. Embassy and get your passport replaced faster than if you hadn't prepared these things.
Suitcase: Tie your favorite ribbon, cloth or string around your suitcase handle so that you can spot it right away. This can also prevent the mistake of someone taking the wrong bag.
In case your suitcase gets lost, put one day's outfit in your companions' suitcase and vice versa.
Weigh your bag before heading out to the airport. If it exceeds the regulated weight you'll have to pay an extra fee.
Credit Cards & Stuff: Make copies of your credit cards, drivers' license, or other forms of ID and place them in different bags (ie. carry on, purse, suitcase) so that if you lose them, you will always have the info handy. On the copies, remember to jot down customer service phone numbers.
Airfare: Not only are the tickets cheaper according to seasons but it is also cheaper depending on what day you fly. Opt for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays.
